Gill Divers FAQ – Scuba Diving
PADI Open Water Diver Course

1. 1. What is the PADI Open Water Diver certification?
2. – The certification will allow successful participant(s) to independently dive with a buddy for not more than 18m. (in the event when you dive without your own buddy, the dive facilities will assign one for you), almost anywhere in the world.
3. – (PADI is the biggest diving certifying agency, therefore most of the dive operators all over the world recognize PADI certification)

4. 1a. Will my PADI dive certification ever expire?
5. – No. However, if diver hasn’t dived for more than 6 months are advised to attend Scuba Review (Refresher course)

6. 2. What is the difference between Junior Open Water Diver and Open Water Diver?
7. – The course structure and content are identical, 1 of the 2 main differences lies in the participants age below and above 15 years of age. The other differences is, during the course, the participants and trainer ratio is smaller for Junior Open Water Course.

8. 3. How long does it takes to complete the PADI Open Water Diver course?
9. – Typically, a week or so following a fix schedule, however individuals may request for customized schedule to fit his/her personal timeline. (with additional cost).
10. – All PADI course are performance based, example 1: Tuesday, student diver completed Theory sections of the course and realized he/she will be busy for the next 1month, he/she may continue his/her training when available.
11. – Example 2: Training Schedule (Tuesday – Theory Lesson, Sunday – Pool (confined water) Training). Participant signed up on Friday and only has limited time to complete the course, he/she may choose to attend the Pool before the theory in order to fit the schedule better.

12. 4. How many participants will attend the course?
13. – Many factors will determine the course size, but we will ensure maximum attention for every participant, if a class size is more than 4-6 (depending on individual group comfort level in the water), an additional divemaster will be assigned or the class will be split into 2 or more groups.

14. 4a. What are the age group of the participants?
15. – It varies from early twenties to fifties.

16. 5. Where will the PADI Open Water Diver Course lessons be conducted?
17. – Theory Lesson – Usually the classes are conducted in Gill Divers (37b Hongkong Street), housecall is possible if you are signing up as a corporate and has a substantial group size.
18. – Pool Lesson – Usually pool training are conducted at Outram Secondary School (map)
